OpenShelf app
The OpenShelf macOS application is offline-first. According to its public source and README:
- Conversions and file tools run on your Mac; files are not uploaded for processing.
- The app does not include telemetry or analytics.
- Optional network access includes checking GitHub for updates (can be disabled) and downloading optional helper tools (ffmpeg, LibreOffice, Pandoc) only when you choose Install in Settings.
This website (openshelf.space)
The site is static HTML served by a small Node server (server.js) that also fetches GitHub release metadata for download buttons.
Analytics (self-hosted Rybbit)
Production pages may include a Rybbit analytics script loaded from rybbit.msantoki.com (a self-hosted instance operated for this site, not Rybbit Cloud). The script is injected at serve time from server environment configuration, not hard-coded in the HTML repository.
According to the Rybbit tracking script and site configuration:
- No cookies are set for analytics.
- The script stores a random visitor identifier in your browser’s localStorage under the key
rybbit-visitor-idso returning visits can be counted without cookies. - Page views may record URL, title, referrer, and query parameters.
- Session duration, entry/exit pages, browser, operating system, screen size, and device type.
- Country and region derived from IP address (Rybbit’s documentation states IPs are used for geolocation and are not stored as raw addresses).
- Outbound link clicks when you follow external links from a tracked page (when enabled in the Rybbit site settings).
Analytics data is processed on the self-hosted Rybbit server at rybbit.msantoki.com. For Rybbit’s general product description, see rybbit.com; retention and subprocessors for the self-hosted instance are under the operator’s control.
Other processing
- Server logs: The hosting provider may log IP addresses, user agents, and requested URLs for security and operations.
- GitHub API: The server fetches public release information from GitHub to show version and download counts. That request goes from the server to GitHub, not from your browser to GitHub on each page view.
